Shenzhen’s geographical position has proven both unique and advantageous. Situated in the southernmost corner of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Hong Kong, Shenzhen has quickly evolved into a high-tech city, logistic hub, financial center and a design capital of the Asian-Pacific region.

Over the past 30 years, Shenzhen has witnessed rapid development. Per capita GDP sits at about US$13,000, placing the city at the forefront of major cities on the Chinese mainland. Shenzhen’s foreign exports account for one-seventh of the nation’s total, ranking it first among all major cities on Chinese mainland for 17 successive years.

Backed by a strong economic base and a desire to push its success to even greater heights, Shenzhen presents a vibrant and competitive landscape for foreign enterprises eager to play a part in the next wave of expansion.

Currently, the city has implemented Development Plans for Shenzhen’s Bioindustry, Development Plans for Shenzhen’s Internet Industry, and Development Plans for Shenzhen New Energy Industry. Through development of emerging industries of strategic importance, Shenzhen aims to push forward industrial transformation and upgrades. According to the development plans, an annual input of 1.5 billion yuan will be invested by the government into the three industries, with estimated annual production value to exceed 650 billion yuan within five years.

Already nurturing three emerging industries, namely Internet, new energy, and biotechnology, Shenzhen now is formulating development plans in other fields such as new materials, creative cultural industry, and information technology, which will become new fields of strategic importance for Shenzhen’s future.??
